Intellectual Property Paralegal

The Intellectual Property Paralegal position supports the attorneys in obtaining, maintaining, and enforcing patents, trademarks, and other intellectual property related matters in US and foreign jurisdictions. Ideal candidate will possess the ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; gather and analyze information skillfully and assist in organizing and documenting patent committees, inventor interviews, and patent mining sessions.

Knowledge of docketing software, patent and trademark databases (e.g., USPTO PAIR, EFS-WEB, TESS, TARR, TSDR, and TEAS; eCO; Espacenet; WIPO PATENTSCOPE and PCT-SAFE), general e-billing knowledge and spreadsheet, word processing, and presentation software. Bachelor’s degree and paralegal certificate required. A minimum of five years’ experience as an IP Paralegal in a law firm or large corporate law department.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Responsible for updating and monitoring the company’s docketing system for all patent and trademark deadlines
  • Assist in preparing and filing of US and PCT patent applications
  • Communicate status updates, reports and various action item deadlines to business units and outside counsel
  • Create, maintain and update files, databases, records and/or other documents as required
  • Assist in managing outside counsel
  • Run the e-billing process, verify invoices and ensure that the businesses timely pay approved invoices
  • Assisting with confidentiality and other intellectual property related agreements
  • Preparing drafts of various legal documents for attorney review
  • Assist with intellectual property audits
  • Assist in various phases of intellectual property litigation including discovery
  • Assist in due diligence for merger and acquisition activities
  • Manage electronic billing system for all IP invoicing between business units, vendors, and outside counsel
  • Various administrative matters as required, including assisting attorneys with management and tracking of workload
